___________________________________________________________________________ Christine, John, Munetake, Karin, Kotaro, Manuel, Giles, Huib, Daisuke, Kirsten, Leonardo, Al Excused: Roberto, Kirsten 1) ASAC membership new members: Christine Wilson (since May 2017), Kirsten Knudsen (since June 2017) currently no NA deputy chair position will be filled at the next face-to-face meeting 2) Items from last ASAC report Tiger Team's recommendation on data delivery processing model and implementation steps no final report yet some actions are already worked on, e.g. having same scripts at JAO and ARCs other items on work flow ASAC would be interested to see report assessment of predicted completion fractions of rank A and B projects in Cycle 4 including remediation ideas if low completion rates are foreseen progress on Band 2+ and Band 2+3 Band2+ passed PDR on 30 May. Presentations summarizing the PDR presentations are at the link. Band 2+3: performed/ing comparative tests of key components of optics and LNAs, with very promising results across the entire frequency range. Full cartridge tests also progressing, expected completion by the end of September. PDR planned for Nov 28-30. AMT meeting next week to discuss the topic 3) Impact of weather on Cycle 4 (and 5) end of May: two powerful snow storms significantly delayed move to long baselines resulting in a complete shut-down of 2-3 weeks, now back to observing TP, 7m and 12m (in C40-5), roads are being cleared C40-9 (12km) expected for early August (1 month delay) C40-7 (~5km) is cancelled for Cycle 4 to allow to get C40-8 (8km) which has a large program C40-7: 45h of rank A (160h for A+B) (expect to get some while moving to C40-9) Current tests planned: Cycle 5 software testing commissioning long baseline at high frequency (likely no impact as this is in the under-subscribed LST) Cycle 5: ~350-400h of carry-forward of Cycle 4 rank A programs, expect that all 4000h may not be scheduled for Cycle 5 expects to send results of Cycle 5 call as planned as well as the Cycle 5 configuration plan 4) ALMA Cycle 5 APRC impressions from ASAC members, JAO, and community high-z panel: discussion of large programs in panels separately led to very different outcome on recommendation, further process a bit unclear to panel members, room for improvement of review of large programs procedure for normal proposals was good, helped that duplication/resubmission was a much lesser issue and that chairs were not primary reviewers work load of each panel member is still too high (eps. ISM and SF) John: best way for down-select of large programs is still under discussion there is an unbalance on number of proposals for different panels several of the improvements implemented helped used time on the last day 5) Standard plots incl. completed OUS/projects, current completion rate and predicted completion rate at end of Cycle plots block number for snowstorm ~ 84 backlog is currently very low, almost no projects left for Cycle 3 as well 129/700h completed for ACA supplemented call (time allocation already corrected for snow storm) 6) AOB Kyoto face-to-face meeting 1-2 October (any open issues?) none ALMA Long Baseline workshop deadline for abstracts: Aug 1 deadline for registration: Sep 1 40 people registered so far (invited and review speakers not yet registered) limit: 100 part Open ESO-ALMA positions Robert Laing left ESO: ad for ALMA instrument scientist is out for questions contact Leonardo and/or Wolfgang Wolfgang Wild will start to work for CTA as of Sep 1, 2017 opening for ESO European ALMA head ad is out or will be out soon Leonardo Testi will be interim ACA stand-alone at high-frequency for Cycle 6: deciding date is Dec. 1st regional SAC meetings before ASAC face-to-face meeting EASAC 29.
