  • 23B
    • TAC Meetings
      • Large Proposal Meeting. The Large proposal meeting is on Monday, 10 April 2023 at 10:00-13:00 EDT (08:00-11:00 MDT). The plan is to send updated information to the TAC on Thursday, 13 April 2023.
      • Regular TAC Meeting. The regular TAC meeting is on Monday-Tuesday, 17-18 April 2023 in Green Bank.
    • Technical Review Process. EmmanuelMomjian summarized the feedback from VLA/VLBA technical reviewers in Socorro. Below are the salient points. (For the GBT, ToneyMinter noted that there have not been any issues with the techncial reviews and they aid the project friend for approved projects.)
      1. About 3% of proposal are not feasible.
      2. Much less than 10% of proposals have serious issues.
      3. Given (1) and (2), most proposals do not need to be reviewed.
      4. Better or improved software tools would help with the technical review process (e.g., GOST-->RCTV2).
      5. Need a better VLA ECT. The overhead issues are the biggest problem. RobertMinchin is leading a working group to develop requirements.
      6. Need an improved VLBA observing planner tool. Will send requirements to JIVE.
      7. Need to improve the documentation.
      8. Suggest that we limit the technical reviews to a subset with possibly some done pre-SRP and some done post SRP/TAC (e.g., use linear-rank threshold or only priority A).
      9. The following proposals should still be reviewed: Triggered, Large, HSA, complicted spectral line, and SRO/RSRO.
  • Observed versus Requested Time. AnandCrossely summarized the results of his analysis of the ratio of observed time to requested time. The results indicate that the results are no so dependent on the priority (e.g., for the VLA the ratio is about 70% for priority A and B, and about 40% for priority C). Some caveats. Proposals with all priority N sessions are excluded from the analysis. The requested time for priority N sessions is included if there are some session with A, B, or C priority. The ratio is calculated for the semester in which the proposal was submitted, even if sessions were observed in future semesters. There was some discussion that fixed time should not be included since this is not part of the dynamic scheduling process. For the GBT, there is a gray area for monitoring projects which need to be executed within a window; these make up 25% of the observing (pulsar monitoring). Two additional metrics of interest are (1) approved/requested which probes the demand, and (2) observed/approved which probes how we deliver as an observatory. AnandCrossley will continue to improve the analysis and compare notes with the VLA/VLBA schedulers.
  • AOB
    • Joint JWST: AnthonyRemijan reported that we are close to a joint agreement with JWST (24A/Cycle3).
    • Password Reset URL: Main.Jimsheckard reported that he needs to fix an issue on test.
