This is the portal into NRAO interactive services. If you do not have an account please register using the Create Account button. Or if you have forgotten your password one will be emailed to you by using the "Forgot Password?" link. Once you login you can change your password from the Administration Tab under My Profile. Click on your user name highlighted in blue under "User Preferences". The session will time out after 60 minutes of inactive use.

Dashboard

General news and information can be found on the Dashboard. Details about the current call for proposals can be found here along with information about NRAO telescopes.

Proposals

Here is where you manage proposals to NRAO telescopes. The main page summarizes your NRAO proposals. For detailed help about the proposal submission tool click on the Help button which is available on each page. Use the New Proposal button to add a new proposal. Use the Options frame to filter or search for specific proposals. Click on the proposal ID to go to that proposal. Use the icons to delete, print, copy, validate, submit, or withdraw a proposal (icons1.jpg icons2.jpg).

General

This page provides basic information about the proposal (title, abstract, etc.). There is an 80 character limit on the Title and a 200 word limit on the Abstract.

Edit any field. Click the Edit button. All fields are available. Use the Save button to save all fields. Use the Cancel button to cancel the edit.

Authors

The Authors Page is where you enter the contact information for the principal investigator (PI) and any co-investigators (co-I). The person creating the proposal will automatically be an author. The PI cannot be deleted.

Add an author. Click the Add button. Enter the author name to search the NRAO database. If not found you must manually input the author information.
Delete an author. Click the author name. Then click the Delete button.
Reorder the author list. Currently you must delete and then add authors.

Scientific Justification

This is where you upload a file containing the scientific and technical justification of the proposal, including figures and references. Only PDF, postscipt, or ASCII formats are allowed. Regular or rapid-response proposals will be allowed a maximum of four (4) one-sided pages (US letter sized) with 11 point font (minimum) to present the scientific justification and the technical feasibility of the project, including all figures, tables and references. Large proposals will be allowed a maximum of ten (10) one-sided pages (US letter sized) with 11 point font (minimum) to present the scientific justification and the technical feasibility of the project, including all figures, tables and references.

Add the scientific justification. Click the Add button. Then use the Browse button or enter the filename (including path) and click on Upload. The Browse and Upload buttons are only visible in add mode. Your proposal should be visible under "File Preview".
Replace the scientific justification. Click the Replace button and repeat the browse/upload procedure.
Delete the scientific justification. Click the Delete button.
Download the scientific justification. Click the Download button.

Sources

The Sources Page is used to enter the positions and velocities/redshifts of your target sources. Sources are divided into groups (specified by a name) since it often necessary to divide the telescope time into more than one block of time with different LST ranges.

Add a source group. Click the New Source Group button, enter the group name and click the Save button.
Delete a source group. Click the source group name (in blue) and then click the Delete button.
Add sources to a group (manually). Click the Add button, enter data into the available fields, and then click the Save button.
Add sources to a group (search). Click the Search Ned/Simbad buton to fetch the source information from Ned/Simbad. The Ned/Simbad server does not send data to other systems after 5pm and on weekends.
Add many sources to a group. Click the Import button. Then use the Browse button or enter the filename (including path) and click on Upload. Below is the file format and an example. Either a redshift or velocity must be specified but not both.
Source name, Right Ascension, Declination, Epoch, Velocity, Redshift, Group Name
  G32.80+0.19, 18:50:30.9, -00:02:00, J2000, 13.5, , Group1
Delete a source from the group. Click the source name (in blue) and then click the Delete button.

Resources

The Resources Page defines what telescope equipment and modes (e.g., receiver, back end, spectral mode, etc.) will be used for the proposed observations. A resource is given a name which can be any unique character string. For the GBT there are resource groups which combine one or more resources.

Add a resource. Click the Add button, enter in the relevant information, and then click the Save button.
View a resource. Click the resource name (in blue) to view the details of a resource.
Edit a resource. Click the resource name (in blue) to view the resources, click the Edit button, change the relevant fields, and then click the Save button.
Delete a resource. Click the resource name (in blue) to view the resource, click the Edit button, and then click the Delete button.

  • GBT Only

Add a resource group. Click the New Resource Group button, edit the resource group name and click the Save button.
Delete a resource group. Click the resource group name (in blue) and then click on the Delete button.

Sessions

The Sessions Page is used to construct observing sessions (a contiguous block of observing time on the telescope). Each session will use the sources and resources defined earlier. On the GBT, a session can contain only one source group/resource group pair. On the VLA, a session can contain one or more source group/resource pairs. All the source group/resource pairs in a VLA session must use the same array configuration. For example, you must assemble two separate observing sessions if your proposal requests VLA observations in both the A and the B configurations, even if those observing sessions use otherwise identical source group/resource pairs.

Add a new session. Click the New Session button, enter in the relevant information, and click the Save button.
View a session. Click the session name (in blue) to view the details of the session.
Edit a session. Click the session name (in blue) to view the details of the session, click the Edit button, change the relevant fields, and then click the Save button. Click the source group name (in blue) to edit the information related to the specific source group/resource pair.
Delete a session. Click the session name (in blue) to view the details of the session, click the Edit button, and then click the Delete button.

  • VLA only

Add source group/resource pair. Click the session name (in blue) to view the details of the session, click the Add button, enter in the relevant information, and click the Save button.
Delete source group/resource pair. Click the session name (in blue) to view the details of the session, click the Add button, and then click the Delete button.
