Additional Source Info
NRAO Interactive Services Modification Request 5C409, Oct 2009
1. Introduction
The source information is not complete. For the velocity/redshift field there needs to be a reference frame and definition.
2. Background
3. Requirements
- Add Doppler Type, Reference Frame, and Definition for sources. Below are the options for each. The import/export utility needs to be updated to add these fields.
- Doppler Type:
- EVLA/VLBA: Velocity, Redshift (default: Velocity)
- GBT: Velocity, Redshift (default: Velocity)
- Reference Frame:
- EVLA/VLBA: Barycentric, LSR (implied LSRK), Topocentric (default: LSR)
- GBT: Heliocentric, Barycentric, LSRK, LSRD, Topocentric, Galactic, CMB (default: LSRK)
- Definition:
- EVLA/VLBA: Optical, Radio, Relativistic (default: Radio)
- GBT: Optical, Radio, Relativistic (default: Radio)
- Increase the precision in the source position.
Questions
- The import file will have to be modified given the additional columns. Should we force everyone to add more columns or try to use defaults if the extra columns are not added? There are advantages and disadvantages for either choice.
- The Doppler Type is indirectly indicated in the import file by the location of the value. Should this change?
- What changes will be required for NED/SIMBAD imports?
- I think the definition is only relevant for velocity and not redshift. How should this be handled?
- What should be the precision of the source coordinates?
- How does the PST source information coordinate with the overall source catalog developed in Socorro?
4. Design
Technical lead should provide a brief description of how this will be implemented in the code.
5. Deployment Checklist
Documentation? Systems/hardware/networking things needed for deployment?
6. Test Plan
6.1 Internal Testing
6.3 Integration/Regression Tests
