Minor User Interface Issues/"Auto-Save Drafts"

NRAO Interactive Services Modification Request 4C109, February 2009

1. Introduction

Minor modifications based on user feedback.

2. Background

See PSTFeedbackOctober2008

3. Requirements

  1. When in edit mode some users have complained about loosing data when they either get timed out or when they briefly switch to another page and then back. (For example, they are editing the abstract, switch to the session page briefly, and then back to the General page.) The following should be implemented:
    • When changing pages the PST should prompt users if they want to save any edits or cancel before they are directed to the other page.
    • Develop a mechanism to auto save drafts every 10 minutes.
  2. Users are having problems finding the submit icon. This may be for a couple of reasons. They may not see the arrow icon or know that it is the submit button. Also, these icons are only on the main proposal page. Yet when they want to submit they may be on the specific proposal page and cannot see the submit icon. Changes should be made to make submitting a proposal more transparent.
  3. When the mouse is over the "submit" arrow on the proposal listing page, the text that appears in the lower left corner is something like https://my.nrao.edu/pst/garbage. Can we remove this?
  4. Add to the scientific justification page: ".pdf, .txt only; font size no less than 11pt; no more than 4 pages (including figures, tables, and references)."
  5. In Sessions it is not clear that the Time field is the time per session. For example, consider Session1 which has a number of sessions equal to 5 and a time of 3 hours. The PST then calculates a total of 5x3=15 hours. Some users think the Time field is the total time (15 hours in the example). Please change the label to: "Time/Session (hrs)".
  6. Add a countdown to the deadline on the Dashboard.
  7. When importing many sources from a file with no group name specified a source group will be created for each source by default. A warning message should be displayed with the option of either importing the sources or not.
  8. Provide a utility to copy parts of an existing proposal to another proposal. For example, copy resource group X from proposal A to proposal B. Also, copy all resources from proposal A to proposal B. This should be low priority

4. Design

Ashish should provide a brief description here of how he is going to implement the "auto-save drafts" feature.

5. Deployment Checklist

  • Once Ashish makes the changes and deploys them to the test environment, Dana will review, sign off on the MR, and update the documentatio to match the changes.

6. Test Plan

6.1 Internal Testing

6.2 Sponsor Testing

6.3 Integration/Regression Tests
