News / Meetings / Visitors

  • Ad. Hoc. Imaging Meeting last week
  • Long Baseline Campaign

Build, Release, Testing

  • Tarballs w/ pipeline ready

Architecture

Warnings

  • A web page summarizing the warnings status exists and will be updated weekly. It does a clean Debug build of the code project on RHEL 6.
  • The total number of warnings went from 469 (16/Oct) to 431 (23/Oct), a 5% improvement.

Testing

  • The status of unit and module tests in CASA code is available on the web.

HPC

Development

  • casa --noipython does not work as advertised in casa cookbook: "does not launch ipython (useful when combined with the -c option)" since it ignores -c when ipython=False

Pipeline

  • Pipeline C3R3 branch created
  • CASA / Pipeline distribution created
  • Find continuum region algorithm testing

Developer Reports

Monday Meeting
  • Sanjay Bhatnagar
  • Sandra Castro
  • Lindsey Davis
    • PEPs
    • Provided input for imaging pipeline test plan
    • Branched pipeline for C3R3 release
    • Drafted C3R3 release notes
    • Preparation for long baseline campaign in Chile
  • Pam Ford
    • Added deprecation warning to plotms Locate output and text file export to warn users that cache chunk info will be removed
    • User support re: casa --noipython flag
    • Investigated tarball seg fault with plotms sharedaxis argument - non-unique class name picked up in wrong library (guitools rather than casaqt)
    • Investigated pipeline testing bugs reported by Emmanuel which happen in 4.5 build but not in trunk
      • CAS-8019 RTT - plotms autorange issue (chopping top of y-axis) - max() quit working, fixed with std::max()
      • point moves outside region marking point
  • Kumar Golap
  • Justo González Villalba
    • Triage of open tickets, scheduling for 4.6 and verified fixes for a couple of flagdata issues
    • Fixed bad weight handling case in TVI that was causing to propagate input 0 weights to NaNs
    • Looking into spin-off issue of phase shifting in mstransform task reported by Amanda
  • Jim Jacobs
    • Reviewed and updated my open JIRA tickets.
    • Explored odd problem related to CAS-7733
  • Jeff Kern
  • Susan Loveland
    • Viewer (2.5 days):
      • CAS-7860: new task-based interface for image moments (ready to test)
      • CAS-7174: PDF saved by Viewer Spectral Profile Tool is squashed horizontally (ready to test)
      • CAS-6824: flux density units inconsistent in spectral profile tool (resolved)
      • Fixed 37 display compile warnings on RedHat 6
    • CARTA: Miscellaneous bug fixes
  • David Mehringer
    • (CAS-7983) Refactor ImageAnalysis::putregion(): RTT. Refactored.
    • (CAS-7987) move ImageAnalysis::set() to PIxelValueManipulator: RTT. Refactored.
    • (CAS-8012) Refactor: move ImageAnalysis::summary() to ImageMetaData. RTT. Refactored.
    • (CAS-8015) Refactor: ImageAnalysis::setcoordsys() -> ImageMetaDataRW::setCsys(). RTT. Refactored.
    • (CAS-8017) Refactor: move ImageAnalysis::imagefromascii() to ImageFactory::fromASCII(). RTT. Refactored.
    • (CAS-7986) Create MS Consistency Validation Tool. IR. Submitted casacore pull request. One reviewer has apparently passed it to another reviewer, so currently in casacore github limbo. Some discussion about allowing msmd to open MSes which are known to be invalid, which I disagree with. It is my opinion that users of APIs should not have to check that the objects that they are operating on are valid, and that imposing such checks on callers is poor software design. IMO, the object being acted upon should be responsible for checking and maintaining its own internal consistency, and for throwing exceptions when it is invalid.
  • George Moellenbrock
    • Out sick near 3 days
    • Worked on PEP
    • Discussions with Pam (plotms) and Mark Weiringa (freq-resolved opacity)
  • Dirk Petry
  • Martin Pokorny
  • Urvashi Rao
    • Imager design documentation + some JIRA reading/planning + attending a couple of sessions of the Imaging meeting + PEP.
    • Gave my work laptop for an upgrade on Monday. Got it back on Friday sans CASA dev libs :).
  • Darrell Schiebel
    • PEP
    • removing more boost-isms
    • working on linux distribution generation script (al a the OSX make-app script)
  • Ville Suoranta
  • Julian Taylor
  • Takahiro Tsutsumi
    • Re-arranged and updated python unit tests for cube tclean (22 of them)
    • A minor bug fix in predictcomp + updated some JIRA tickets
Friday NAOJ Meeting
  • Kanako Sugimoto
    • Reported recent progress and future plans of CASA developments at ALMA/NRO45m/ASTE/Mopra joint users meetingthis week. Thank you very much Jeff for a presentation file at CUC and Sandra for the help on my HPC questions. EA-ARC hosted CASA tutorial at the meeting and Erik and Rie gave introduction there.
      • I had a couple of questions about how to run CASA tasks in parallel and when will the parallelized run will be efficient.
    • a fix to simulator utility according to the change to ia.histogram by Dave. All tests except for m51_tpsim one pass now. m51_tpsim fails due to the change to image statistics.
    • A fix to dryrun=True in simalma ( CAS-7968)
    • working on beam calc performance ( CAS-7643). msmd.pointingdirection takes infinite amount of time. needs profiling to figure out the way to improve.
  • Wataru Kawasaki
  • Masaya Kuniyoshi
