Bjorn Emonts has accepted position as CASA Liaison, start date: July 10.
Bjorn will be stations in Charlottesville.
This is a scientist position, w/ 25% time allocated to independent research.
Will take responsibility for user documentation and newsletter. Will help transition new capabilities into operations.
Next CASA Dev Talk March 28 @ 9am MT / 11am ET: "VI/VB2 and Transforming VI" by George
Build, Release
CASA-4.7.2: CAS-9798
mstransform issue is holding up release; mstransform is working properly, but users don't like it.
Kumar will check to confirm that tclean is obeying basic statistics. If it does, we push 4.7.2 out; later we will work on the cvel / mstransform issue.
The whole plone tree is included in every CASA distribution. Unless marked private or internal, files will be included. We may need to investigate excluding some of the linked files.
Verification Testing
New Mac Minis are in place, ready for Bamboo prep
Linux Machine supposedly arrived last week, no word from CIS
Validation Testing
PLONE REPORT SO FAR:
32 testers tasked (16 NAASC + 10 in EU + 4 in EA + 1 at JAO + 1 CV Jansky fellow) (this testing period went roughly through the month of February)
of 21 chapters to release in plone with CASA 5.0:
12 chapters have been assigned so far
6 need at least some work before assignment (but a few just need someone fresh to start looking at them to help us move them forward), 2 have had significant work done and can begin to be evaluated piecemeal, 1 needs to be validated with new functionality (the simulations chapter)
of 43 tasks/tools (and this number is going up) to release in plone with CASA 5.0:
37 tasks/tools already assigned
4 need to be validated with new functionality, 1 needs to be validated with relevant chapter above, 1 ready to assign
current number of pages ready to publish: 14
90 tickets Ready to Validate, 159 Under Validation. Of these, at least 36/120 are plone-related.
Shouldn't we coordinate the parallel testing done by Dirk Muders with our tests at ESO? We can avoid duplication and try to check for different issues. Yes, coordinating w/ Dirk is recommended.
Added to ESO's Jenkins a job to run the ALMA calibration pipeline in parallel on the latest CASA tarball. It runs every night and currently it fails due to the known VI/VB2 in SynthesisImagerVi2.cc.
On the other hand, switching to VI/VB1 goes through previous failure from SynthesisImagerVi2.cc and stops in the error described in CAS-9605 CAS-9620, when pipeline tries to copy node files (using specmode=mfs') after computing the dirty cube. There has been a discussion between Urvashi and Dirk M. on what the pipeline should do in this case, but no solution has been provided. I see this failure in 2 different data sets.
Jim is working on VI/VB2 selection issue.

Further investigations into CAS-5174. uvcontsub, uvcontsub3 and mstransform seem to all give the same results but more checks needed.

CAS-9798: velocity binning during imaging appears to add noise. Digging into the code and trying to understand, also history: CAS-4900, CAS-1111.
mstransform 'combinespws' limitation ( CAS-9695) more explicitly documented, better error handling in for 5.0. Q: worth the effort in VI/VB2 to remove this limitation?
