News / Meetings / Visitors

Build, Release, Testing

  • Continuing mstransform test failure - Defer until George is around.
  • Mark is trawling existing data left by Scott.
  • Next user tester meeting on 7/15. Use existing tar ball, with known issues reported.
  • Rob and Mark to review tickets requiring input.

Architecture

  • Technical Forums - Possible topics:
    • Pipeline (Lindsey) - possibly on 24th.
    • Virtual Corrected Data Column (George, Jim or Justo - wait until three are available to discuss)
    • Tables/Measures -
    • Flagging (Q4, Sandra, Justo or Urvashi)
    • VI/VB2 (Jim - with a focus on integration effort - possibly August)
    • System Architecture direction (Jim)
    • Environmental variables (Jim, but not quite yet)

Development

  • Team input on 4.4 development targets -please send an e-mail to Rob by Friday the 18th.
    • 4.3 feature freeze 9/15.
    • 4.4 cycle runs from September through March, with a release in April.
  • 4.4 planning process review.
    • Will collect input from the various stakeholder groups. Jeff and Rob will do an initial normalization and 1st order cut, then bring to the CASA team for discussion. Discussion can focus on relative priority, resource constrained selection and items requiring clarification. Will eventually result in V1 of the development target list for wider review and comment.

Pipeline

  • Lindsey is back from vacation. Working on a pre-release of the pipeline heuristics built off the existing tar ball.
    • Will have a number of plotms issues, some possibly fixed, in this build.
    • Need to integrate with the SD tasks.
  • Documentation will be delivered, with a focus on ALMA interferometry.
    • Pipeline working group is leading the documentation effort. Juergen would like to link to the cookbook since he is currently working on the cookbook updates.
    • Since pipeline will be integrated into the tar for 4.2.2 release, do need to ensure we have user documentation.
  • Testing results vary by ARC. Increasing number of automated pipeline products are usable with the latest build. Approximately 40% of products acceptable without intervention. Shooting for 75%.

Developer Reports

Monday Meeting

  • Sanjay Bhatnagar
  • Sandra Castro
  • Lindsey Davis
  • Kumar Golap
    • Worked mainly on speeding msuvbin
      • Have special cases when uvrotation is not needed
      • special cases when bandwidth decorrelelation is not important
  • Justo Gonz├ílez Villalba
  • Jim Jacobs
    • Will check in the changes creating a separate MSVis library. People will need to do a refresh and clean build to resync with SVN.
    • Look into build and tarball system.
    • Advance Carta GUI design.
  • Jeff Kern
  • Susan Loveland
    • Plotms pipeline problem.
    • CARTA.
  • David Mehringer
  • George Moellenbrock
    • Continued mapping out deployment of WEIGHT_SPECTRUM
    • Attended ALMA Polarization SV telecon
    • Some testing of TEC corrections (FJones)
    • Continued noise studies in wake of the "Weights in CASA" tech forum: impact of ALMA normalization and EVLA switched power application on visibility noise.
  • Dirk Petry
    • Working on a new spectral reference frame. Undefined reference frame. Now committed to trunk.
    • CAS-6675
  • Urvashi Rao
  • Darrell Schiebel
  • Rob Selina
    • CAS-6716: Working with Dave & Peter Teuben to define the requirements for new robust noise estimating algorithms/methods.
    • Planning for the 4.4 cycle.
    • HPC project evaluation.
    • Chasing down CARTA sub-award.
  • Takahiro Tsutsumi
    • CAS-5370: Replaced Jupiter and Titan models with new ones provided by Bryan in the data repository
    • CAS-4623 - Setjy 'setpol': Added functionality to allow setting a model with 1) spectral index including higher terms (curvature terms), 2) polarization index and angle expressed in the form of Taylor series expansion, and with 3) rotation measure.

Friday NAOJ Meeting

  • Kanako Sugimoto
  • Wataru Kawasaki
    • CAS-6485: Investigated the issue reported by Bunyo. Actually no problem in the relevant codes, and the reported inconsistency between the expected and the actual results was found to come from a slight change of sd.scantable.parse_spw_selection() made around late April for the cases of velocity ranges given for spw selection. No concern anymore, so this ticket can be set resolved now.
    • CAS-6583: Modified sdbaseline to skip baseline fitting/subtraction for row-flagged spectra as required. Also added unit tests to verify that flag information is properly handled in sdbaseline. Committed the changees to the trunk (asap:r2968, casa-data:r10012, and gcwrap:r30337).
  • Takeshi Nakazato
  • Shinnosuke Kawakami
