Developer Reports

Monday Meeting
  • Sanjay Bhatnagar
    • Run time performance issue in selection
    • HPC things
  • Sandra Castro
    • Run functional tests using MMS for most tasks. Fixed some of them. Others still fail and need to be checked.
    • Writing a quick-guide on how to run functional tests using MMS instead of MS. This guide is aimed to the CASA developers.
    • Testing the new "balanced" partition mode on the ALMA pipeline. It would be useful to have a "test" mode in the pipeline so that we can switch off parts of the script that we don't need. For example, switch off all the calls to plotms and plotcal.
  • Lindsey Davis
    • Pipeline release bug fixes, notes, instructions, and announcement
    • Planning for next release
  • Joe Depa
  • Pam Ford
    • Working with Justo on MSTransform TVI issues in plotms, making progress
  • Kumar Golap
    • Worked on closing some bugs
    • CAS-7266 was the main time consumer
      • single dish gridding code is now using memory fully ..so had to upgrade the makeimage function to make sure large cubes do not go over into swap or out of memory
      • Fixed some lattice based division which was making memcopies
      • And python code that was loading the whole image in memory to do some basic statistics calculation
  • Justo Gonz├ílez Villalba
    • Implemented a new partition mode to avoid problems detected when using many SubMSs
    • Implemented fixes and features for the integration of the mstransform visibility iterator in plotms
    • Provided feedback for science testing issues and hpc project.
  • Jim Jacobs
  • Jeff Kern
    • Finally getting caught up after break
    • CARTA Meeting
  • Susan Loveland
    • CASA
      • Viewer Bugs: CAS-7248, CAS-7247
      • Worked on Red Hat Linux build problems (fixed with Jim's help)
    • CARTA
      • Histogram work with Amanda
      • CARTA Meetings
      • Command infrastructure work
      • Python scripting client infrastructure work
  • David Mehringer
    • I attempted to refactor ClassicalStatistics class using the Composite pattern, but that resulted in significant negative performance impacts, so I am refactoring using another method before moving on to completing FitToHalfStatistics.
    • I responded to Sandra's query re: how msmd/MSMetaData determines WVR spws. I asked her to get Todd's approval re: her proposal that "old" ALMA datasets with spws of 2 channels be tallied as WVR windows.
    • I responded to Ger's request that I move various Lattice classes in our casacore based on his proposal. I said that I could not commit to doing that atm as I am quite entrenched in the stats framework work and, besides, his request is not on my target list for this cycle. I cc'ed Jim in my response in case he knew of anyone on our team who could fulfill Ger's request.
    • I responded to Susan's query re: regions, LEL expressions, and image statistics.
    • I responded to Jeff's email re: splatalogue and ADMIT. Jeff had suggested that Brian Kent talk with me re: the CASA spectral line identification code, but since Susan rewrote and has touched much of this code much more recently than I, I suggested she might be the better choice of a consultant.
  • George Moellenbrock (3 days, after return from vacation)
    • Various JIRA triage for 4.4, mapping out the next 6 weeks
    • CalibratingVI implementation work, including discussion with Justo re deploy in MSTransform framework, and with Jim re dependency gymnastics
    • Examined selfcal problem reported by Frazer
    • Some prep for ALMA poln workshop (Feb 2-4)
  • Dirk Petry
    • ASDM ephemeris support: may need conversion to GEO in importasdm
    • FITS IDI support: found that the recently started effort by I.v.Bemmel (ASTRON) to create fringe fitting task matches nicely the time schedule; hope to have at least beta version of this in 4.4; discussion with George ongoing
  • Urvashi Rao
  • Darrell Schiebel
  • Julian Taylor
  • Takahiro Tsutsumi
Friday NAOJ Meeting
  • Kanako Sugimoto
    • inherited created a class inheriting MSTransformManager to output processed data to a new MS in sdms tool.
    • add a parameter to supress log output in sdscale
    • crash of sdimaging in CASA 4.3 on OSX
  • Wataru Kawasaki
    • CAS-699[78]: finished code implementation (new task tsdbaseline and new tool sdms.subtract_baseline). unit tests to be added.
    • CAS-7001: had a discussion on Tuesday with NAOJ CASA developers about the new MS-based SD baseline table in which best-fit baseline parameters to be stored. we fixed the overall structure of it and decided that we try to define the new baseline table by inheriting the MS caltable, then we would like to make a request to add an integer column in caltable to store FEED_ID, to cope with data from Nobeyama's multibeam data.
  • Masaya Kuniyoshi
    • installed CASA 4.3 on our local machines here and confirmed it works.
    • succeed in reproducing the same results (Unite tests & regression tests) as Darrel did in NRAO.
    • made the task tsdcal (CAS-6992) extracting Tsys tables from MS and made a svn commit
    • about to put the test_tsdcal (unite tests) in the trunk
    • moving to the next ticket (CAS-6995 MS transition: update weight in Tsys calibration)
  • Takeshi Nakazato
    • Almost completed CAS-6991, necessary tests will be added after Masaya's commit that will define unit test for tsdcal task
    • Started to look at CAS-6993, now thinking about how I can reuse calibration code without introducing too much complexity
    • Provided data and .last file for sdimaging crash reported as CAS-7266
    • E-mail based discussion about casa::Array and bison/flex configuration in casacore
    • Purchase of two Mac Mini (2.6GHz Mac Mini 16GB RAM 1TB HDD model and 1TB Fusion Drive model)
    • Discussion with B&T team (mainly Darrell) about introducing Sakura, our target is end of January to include Sakura to casa third party
  • Shinnosuke Kawakami
    • CAS-6929: compiling CASA with gc-casacore was completed. unittest/regression test which related to '_getchunk' failed but Ger has already fixed in gc-casacore by adding new functionality to Vector class. Now compiling is restarted again.
    • After these tests finished, we will verify our modification with the developer who know the source code well, and then we will merge from test branch to trunk, Mark will decide the time line.
