USNO VLBA Support Meeting
Date: May 19th 2015
Time: 11 am Mountain, 1pm Eastern
*Phone: 434-817-6584 rm 152, Socorro
Attending:
USNO: Nicole, Alan, Chris, Dan, John
NRAO: Walter, Ephraim, James, Jim
Agenda
Status
- Correlator:
- Walter and James will visit next week (Tu-Fri Walter, Tu-Th James)
- Waiting on power audit of room before starting Phase 2. Action USNO: Dave to get audit done
- VLBA Observations
- Daily Observation Report for April
- There were a few backup observations at St. Croix. They showed the expected elevated RMS.
- ACTION Ephraim will follow up on SSD inventories.
- LONG TERM: Track SSDs through TRACK? USNO and NRAO agree this may be worthwhile.
- At the end of the month Apr28 had 10 outliers with very high RMS.
- Chris may look into this to determine the source of issues. It is probably not due to any telescope problems, more likely due to fringing and source selections.
- On Apr 24 & 27 (n5114, n5117), no fringes were found expect only in a single band in some cases. UPDATE: Nothing found for equipment work orders or in logs.
- On April 14 (n5104), "weird" fringes were seen and it may be recorrelated. UPDATE: NRAO logs show there was a DBE resynch, which normally causes enough of a problem to have NO fringes.
- 4 station observations - twice-monthly
- All recent runs have been fine, April 1 re-run needed due to DiFX issue.
- 5 station runs - twice weekly
- ~ 3-4 more weeks
- Dual correlation models (CALC9 & CALC 11) as part of comparison for eventual switch to CALC 11.
- Question - are there additional runs needed beyond this? USNO: No, the results being provided are expected to be enough.
- Open issues
- Plan going forward is to focus on observation information only, no correlator discussion.
- Next meeting on June 11th (Thursday)
