DSS Weather plots/tables

Plots:

  1. Available time versus frequency.
  2. Available time versus frequency. Assumes that only the atmosphere degrades performance.
  3. Cumulative distribution function for atmospheric system temperature (14-50 GHz).
  4. Cumulative distribution function for atmospheric system temperature (70-116 GHz).
  5. Cumulative distribution function for atmospheric opacity (14-50 GHz).
  6. Cumulative distribution function for atmospheric opacity 70-116 GHz).

The weather data are from the CLEO forecasts (Tsys, Opacity) and weather station 2 (wind speed).

For plots 1-2 the L-band through Q-band data only include a few points across each band. The curves are ratty since the engineer's Trx values are being used for each frequency instead of a constant value across the band. Also, jumps at the band edges are caused by an increase in Trx at these frequencies. The available time is less near Ka and Q-band than earlier plots since the Trx were overestimated.

MUSTANG (Bolo) is a fully sampled array where it is assumed that the no-wind offset pointing error is equal to the tracking error (about 1.2 arcsec; see DSPN 5.2). Cloud cover is important for MUSTANG since it is used for continuum observing. But this is not currently included so in some sense this curve is an upper limit to the available time. W-band (BFA) assumes a fully sampled array such as one would have with a beam forming array. Here Trx = 30 K was assumed based on ALMA specs from Al Wootten. The available time here is less than for MUSTANG because of the smaller Trx values (Trx = 120 K for MUSTANG). W-band (Arr+QD) assumes a sparsely sampled array with use of the QD to improve pointing. At best the QD can detected errors larger than 2 arcsec which is not good enough for 90 GHz and above.
