Two changed made for this map: (1) Absorber over front to Tx feed has been angled by about 5 degrees upwards. This should be enough to put any reflection coming from the ALMA antenna, reflected back off the front surface of this absorber, to be reflected about 10 degrees away from the ALMA antenna. (2) Pointing of the Tx has been realigned to maximize the power into the holography receiver. This increased the received power by about 16% or 0.67 dB. This confirms that Jack's attempt to change the tx pointing to the -3 dB point, which had been the intention, didn't work out. I suspect that the Tx antenna may have started off, say, -1 degree away from optimum, and Jack changed it as requested by +2.3 degrees, but it then ended up at about +1.3 degrees from the maximum, not far enough for the test I had in mind.

Several changes: (1) A piece of absorber has been put in front of the SIGNAL receiver feed. The phase response of this is unknown, so the absolute structure measured on the surface from this map will be meaningless. However, it does seem have significantly reduced the 1.25 Hz modulation on the reference signal, and the main signal seems much more stable. This could be because (a) it has reduced the reflection of the transmitter back from the main signal feed back to the tower, or (b) because it has reduced the amount of LO power being radiated out of the main signal feed. More likely, Murphy is busy and it's just the wind direction or the phase of the moon. This is just an experiment. (2) The flapping absorber around the main sig receiver has been tied down. It is fixed in place more firmly. (3) A new sheet of flat absorber has been installed around the reference receiver feed. This is a single flat sheet of thicker (1-inch?) absorber somewhat larger in extent than the receiver width, glued to the flat front face of the receiver, behind the reference horn.

Wind low now (3.5 m/s; gusting to 6 m/s). Absorber still in front of Rx signal feed feed.
Before this map, a slanted
copper plate in front of the holo tx was installed. Slant angle about 10 degrees,
redirecting incoming radiation up to the sky. There is a hole in this copper plate matching the outer ring of the holography antenna. The copper plate is put on top of the absorber layer that was
already in place, and which still covers the lens/horn antenna. The theory is that we were seeing spurious radiation, LO or whatever,
being scattered back from the absorber sheet over the transmitter. The copper sheet should be better, in that it won't scatter, it'll reflect any unwanted radiation on to the sky.
Also added extra absorber on the tower, in particular trying to eliminate any "corner-cube" type of reflection. The trace in Labview on or besides boresight was excellent after
this plate was put in place - any 1.25 Hz ripple is no more than 0.5% peak to peak in either reference or main sig receiver, and comparable with the natural noise level. Never seen it better.
HOWEVER, the improvement could still be because of the relatively low wind at the moment.
Expect this map to have excellent calibration, but to have horrible aperture phase and amplitude, just like yesterday's last map. The absorber in front of the prime focus holo feed is still there.
Marginal phase stability. Ripples.

Wind 3.5 m/s; 4.5 m/s gust. Removed the circular 35-cm diameter metal plate behind the prime focus feed. Also removed the nice flat layer of absorber that was still behind the metal plate, which we put there some time ago to replace the old absorber with the cuts and gaps in it. Then glued a fresh flat disk of absorber (35 cm diameter) to the plate just removed, and put that plate+absorber back behind the Rx signal feed. The end of the feed is now about 1 cm in front of the absorber. The end of the feed is 1.5 cm in front of the absorber, so the metal plate has now pushed the absorber sheet about 0.5 cm further out. Good amplitude and phase stability. Ripples still present.

First map since ACS6.0 upgrade. High winds (gusts to 55 MPH). Using new holography SB with resolution parameter set to 6.667cm (which is clearly wrong). Also first map since extra eccosorb installed on holography tower. Ripples still present with similar amplitude. Apparently holography tower eccosorb had no affect on ripple pattern. Note that Tx feed still covered with absorber. NOTE: periodic every-other-panel-holes on boundary between rings 3 and 4 due to photogrammetry patches.

Poor phase stability (poor weather?). Using new holography SB with resolution parameter set to 6.667cm (which is clearly wrong). Made with extra eccosorb installed on holography tower and with improved eccosorb installed at signal-feed region. Ripple structure much better, with pattern eliminated from amplitude map, but still present at a lower level in phase map. Better absorber at signal feed helped, but holography tower eccosorb did not. Note that Tx feed still covered with absorber. NOTE: periodic every-other-panel-holes on boundary between rings 3 and 4 due to photogrammetry patches.

Changed the Tx frequency by -60 MHz, to put it into the LSB sideband of the receiver, which normally runs as a USB system. Didn't touch the receiver frequency or attenuators. The level in the receiver was nearly identical (perhaps 5% weaker, that's all). The new Tx frequency, according to the Labview control, is 103.95998486 GHz (instead of the usual ~104.02 GHz).

Amplitude jump during map. By the end of the map, the reference signal had crept up from 13 V to 18 volts, which is where saturation has already set in to some degree. The main signal however had gone down from 13 volts to 8 volts, which is the normal behavior we've been seeing.
I don't understand this, unless there were ice or dew or something on the reference feed while I was setting the dBs in the receiver, and it melted or dried off during the observations. The antenna is facing the sun.

Adjusted panels 7-63 and 11-64 up (i.e. toward the prime focus) by 100 micron. Also rotated signal feed 180 degrees. Amplitude and phase had big jump at start of map. DATA NO GOOD.
