ALMA Holography Monitor and Control Software Requirements

TIP Last Update: JeffMangum - 09 Nov 2006

DarrelEmerson and JeffMangum developed a list of hardware and software requirements for the production holography integration which was presented at the June 19-20, 2006 AIV Review in Santiago. The table below is a quantification of those requirements listing also the current status of their development:

RequirementSorted ascending Details Status Comment Last Update
Can OTF data be recorded correctly, with antenna pointing data
Requires measurement for confirmation
done
Verified by Robert Lucas.
11 November 2006
Can we perform OTF holography data analysis: data gridding, FFT, near-field correction etc.?
Requires measurement for confirmation
done

10 November 2006
Data analysis: can we display amplitude and phase as a function of time, with the
antenna stationary? This is needed for the receiver stability tests

done
Implemented and tested.
5 November 2006
Is the entire system sufficiently robust, capable of operating at least for hours without phase locks coming out of lock, or computer reboots? This is the ultimate holographic test for system stability.
Requires measurement for confirmation
not done

11 November 2006
Receiver & backend: does it produce adequate amplitude and phase stability?
Requires measurement for confirmation
partially done
Appears to be ok, but further checks need to be made.
11 November 2006
The holography feed illumination should be correct
Requires measurement for confirmation
done
Checked 2006/11/09
9 November 2006
The holography receiver must be mounted and in focus
Requires measurement for confirmation
done
Focus checked 2006/11/10. Set to -4mm.
11 November 2006
The received signal should be available end-to-end, from transmitter to displayable data on disk
Requires low-level data acquisition software
done
Implemented and tested.
5 November 2006
The receiver should be on the correct frequency
Requires measurement for confirmation
done

4 November 2006
The telescope should be steerable
(a) It must be possible to point the antenna into a chosen Az & El direction
(b) It should be capable of performing cross-scans and OTF raster scans
(c) It should be recording time-stamped Az-El coordinates during an OTF scan
partially done
Point (a) is done. Point (b) is not done. Point (c) is done.
11 November 2006
The transmitter pointing should be adjustable with sufficient precision (NB we probably won't have the positioner that will be used at the OSF)
Requires measurement for confirmation
done
Transmitter has been realigned by Jack Meadows. Spot-on.
11 November 2006
The transmitter should be illuminating the antenna correctly
Requires measurement for confirmation
done
Transmitter has been realigned by Jack Meadows. Spot-on.
11 November 2006
The transmitter should be on the right frequency
Requires measurement for confirmation
done
Checked several times a day.
11 November 2006
The transmitter should be producing adequate power
Requires measurement for confirmation
done
Looks ok.
11 November 2006
There should be adequate transmitter-receiver sensitivity
Requires measurement for confirmation
done
Appears to be ok, but further checks need to be made.
