Theoretical beam shapes and ALMA measured beams

There are two sets of model beam images for DA and DV antennas. TICRA supplied the electric field simulation data for the ones containing EFP in the filename. According to Dirk, the ones containing VP in the filename are "for a baseline", and are apparently derived from products of the EFP files. See Dirk's presentation at the 2012 CALIM workshop for more information. Unfortunately, all the results below inadvertently used the VP files. However, the VP files differ from the EFP noticeably only at 84 and 116 GHz.

The following table was produced by running getfwhm, and (for comparison) CASA's imfit on the TICRA model beams for the DA and DV antennas using the attached script (after having converted the complex images to amplitude with immath using this script). Note that the TICRA files for the PM antennas are numerically identical to the DV antennas, as they were not independently modeled. So I did not bother fitting those. The FWHM factor and effective taper were then computed with au.primaryBeamArcsec and au.effectiveTaper which account for the ~0.5% effect of the central obstruction using au.centralObstructionFactor. The cubic formula from Baars (2007) was used. The CASA image files are stored here: /lustre/cv/thunter/alma/beamMaps/ticra/*.square.
