Kfpa Commissioning Session Report 29 and 30

Kevin Christiansen systematically reduced KFPA commissioning observations of W51 and produced spectral line plots and reference images.

All files used and produced while processing these data are attached and linked on this page.

Steps in processing these data:

  • Get data from TKFPA_29 scans 13-41 and TKFPA_30 scans 34-62:

sdfits -backends=acs -scans=13:41 TKFPA_29

  • NH3 transition observations:

    • 1-1 and 2-2 (T29) ref scans: 13 and 26, map scans: 14-24
    • 4-4 (T29) ref scans: 28 and 41, map scans: 29-29
    • 5-5 (T30) ref scans: 34 and 47, map scans: 35-45
    • 6-6 (T20) ref scans: 49 and 62, map scans: 50-60

  • Edit .par input file for use with the GBT-PIPELINE. Each of the 4 groups of reference/map scans needs its own .par file. Example for TKFPA_29: t29.par. For each .par file, -refscan1, -refscan2, -m (scans) and -i (raw input) need to be edited appropriately.

  • Use the GBT-Pipeline to process each dataset:

gbtpipeline-test @t29.par

  • Imaging script. This takes files created by the GBT Pipeline in AIPS (in this case AIPS # is 3994) and corrects the rest frequency for accurate mapping and spectral analysis. It also averages a specified number of channels (8 in this case). Example: mapKevin.py. Within each script, restFreqHz must be changed to the rest frequency for the appropriate NH3 transition. Boxes must also be created avoiding the spectral lines. This is done by changing the 'imlin.box' portion of this script. Run default imaging script:

  • Run script to integrate line intensites from spectral line cube. This uses (in the order below) a different AIPS #, the file created by mapKevin.py, an output filename, rest frequency, center velocity, and a velocity range:

  • In AIPS, using the same # used as in the previous step, run the jmfit task to get peak and integrated intensities for the maps. Use the following steps:

    • getn 4
    • task 'jmfit'
    • ngauss 1
    • niter 1000
    • tvlod
    • tvwin (grab region)
    • go jmfit

  • GBTIDL script to fit gaussian to spectral lines: W51gaussfitV.pro. To use this, an ascii table of velocities and intensities must be provided (can be extracted from line cube files using casaviewer).
