Powering Off and On the Cluster

Without Admin Access

Power Down

1. Ensure that correlation is not running.
2. Power off node-001 through node-033 by holding down the power button for 4 seconds. Since they are diskless, there really isn't a need to shut them down properly.
3. The two machines with disks (usno-serv-2 and usno-serv-1) should be shut down properly. For each of these, use the KVM to type ctrl-alt-del to reboot it and then after Linux has shutdown, for example when you see the Dell BIOS screen, hold down the power button for four seconds on that node. The order should be usno-serv-2 then usno-serv-1.
4. The rest of the equipment can just loose power when the room/UPS looses power.

Power Up

1. Power up usno-serv-1 first. Use the KVM to watch it boot. You should see a login prompt when it has finished.
2. Then you can power on usno-serv-2 and node-001 through node-033 in order. You do not need to wait for any of these to boot before moving to the next one. You can start them all one right after the next with no delay if you like.

With Admin Access

Power Down

1. Ensure that correlation is not running.
2. Log in to usno-serv-1 as the user admin.
3. Run the following command

   shutdown_correlator

   The script will warn that it is about to power off the correlator and will require a yes be typed in to continue.

Power Up

1. Power up usno-serv-1 first. Use the KVM to watch it boot. You should see a login prompt when it has finished.
2. Then you can power on usno-serv-2 and node-001 through node-033 in order. You do not need to wait for any of these to boot before moving to the next one. You can start them all one right after the next with no delay if you like.
