Meeting Notes:
Observation Status:
Two mor observations sessions of 4hr + 3hr went well but experienced some technical difficulties receiver wide-band switching, bad Roach cable, & Roach config was out of config. Looking at test pulsar is a great quick test of proper configurations/operations of VEGAS.
Testing Status:
Anish, Patrick, & Ray will test tomorrow for sponsors tests.
Glenn will ask Simon about possibly fixing the integration jump times.
Allan-Variance tests today -tomorrow
Other items:
Ray Creager (
RamonCreager) will join the project's NRAO Software Team as part of the hand-off of Patrick Brandt's duties. Patrick will be off the VEGAS project in four weeks.
Mode 13 (sub-band) status - when will the VEGAS mode for
GBT12A-366 (Jim Jackson's project) be ready for use on the GBT? Probably not until October (lots of testing after development & Roach2 migration).
- Use a mechanism to integrate the observing scientist's help and needs to test out the software.
- Plan for final hardware to be in place for mode 13 obs (received by Sept 1)
Roach2 issue resolution progress in South America is slow. Everything is working except reliable QDR operation. It works properly on prototype, but the problem is intermittent with other boards (calib? timing?); they don't believe it is a hardware problem but not sure. Dan recommends waiting until this issue resolved before the VEGAS order is placed. The SFP+ mezzanine board is now working (prototype), they are making a new layout for second run. Hope to have them in summer. This will not affect summer's mode development. Plan for final hardware (Roach, Mezzanine, & ADCs) to be in place for mode 13 observations (received by Sept 1)
Glenn, Mark, & Jayanth volunteered to draft a VEGAS first-light piece for the NRAO e-News letter. Submissions are due Friday, 20 April, for publication Thursday, 3 May.
