TGBT14A_912_140 - check of latest build of modes 4-6

Goals

  • Try out latest build of Modes 4-6

Details

"Before" tests with current BOF.

  • Get logged in at 8am, start setting up.
  • BOF file is l1_ver134_1500_511_fir_2015_Sep_08_1545.bof
  • Configure for L-band, for each of modes 4-6, and mode 15 just for good measure. Then repeat at X-band
  • Cannot move the telescope, so just do simple 60sec tracks
  • Scan 1 fails - Antenna is still in scan coordinator
  • Scan 2 aborts - VEGAS is producing bad data. Just try again.
  • Scan 3 aborts again - hpc1,2,3 all producing bad data.
  • Turn VEGAS OFF and ON again. Bank F does nothing due to a failed transporter; works the second time around.
  • Now the queue is stuck! No error messages, but Astrid won't submit anything.
  • Donna restarts Astrid - back in action.

before - L-band

  • Scan 4 8Banks_simple_lband_mode4 - finally works. Data looks ok.
  • Scan 5 Mode 5. lbw_gain 2796585, 2847792, 2869467, 2977884, 3150796, 2858836, 2961046, 2936765
  • Scan 6 Mode 4 again. 2899961, 3164034, 3072712, 3077028, 3149809, 2990985, 3061235, 2923240
  • Scan 7 mode 6. 2791534, 3078101, ... 3082115
  • Scan 8 mode 15. 343, 301, 338, 324, 402, 370, 365, 359
  • Difference appears to be approximately 2**13

before - X-band

  • Scan 9 Mode 4. All eight banks hang in aborting. Cycle OFF / ON and repeat
  • Scan 10 Mode 4. HPC4,7,8 taking too long to be ready, 3600 ms
  • Scan 11 Mode 4. HPC4,7,8 failed to start the VEGAS HPC subprocess
  • Scan 12 Mode 4. Same error turn VEGAS OFF and ON
  • Scan 13 Mode 4. HPC3: HPC program taking too long to be ready: 3602 ms
  • Scan 14 Mode 4. HPC3 failed to start HPC subprocess. cycle VEGAS OFF / ON
  • Scan 15 Mode 4. HPC7 too long to be ready
  • Ray arrives - see whether he can diagnose anything...
  • Scan 16 Mode 4. Works this time.... Bank A lbw_gain = 2895219
  • Scan 17 Mode 5.
  • Scan 18 Mode 6.
  • Scan 19 mode 7.
  • Scan 20 mode 15 - all 8 banks abort due to detection of invalid data. Try again without restarting
  • Scan 21 mode 15 - aborts again. Ray cycles OFF and ON
  • Scan 22 mode 15 - finished ok this time.

after - X-band - new BOF

  • BOF is now ..._Nov_03_1157.bof
  • Scan 23 mode 4 Bank A lbw_gain = 543380, Bank B-H 570826 ... 583143. Tsys is now **** (or very large)
  • Scan 23 cal On and cal Off spectra are identical. Repeat
  • Scan 24 same thing again.
  • turn OFF and ON
  • Scan 25 Mode 4 again - hpc4 program taking too long to be ready
  • Scan 26 -hpc4 subprocess failed to start
  • Scan 27 Mode 4 again. Tsys still huge.

Switch back to old BOF - X-band

  • Scan 28 Mode 4 old BOF. hpc3 program taking too long to be ready
  • Scan 29 Mode 4 old BOF.

Conclusions

  • New BOF does not work:
    • Doesn't handle cal on / cal off buffers
    • lbw_gain is a factor of ~ 5 smaller than with old BOF
    • 10:30am - finito
