Usage for sun

Return to directory of Todd's CASA extensions

Determines the azimuth and elevation of the Sun at the specified observatory and specified time. The defaults are ALMA and "now". See also angleToSun, plotSunDuringTrack and listconditions, which in addition to the weather, determines the Sun's position and angular separation from the target for any scan in your ms.

Usage:

au.sun(observatory='', mjdsec='', mjd='', date=None, verbose=False)
Inputs:
  • observatory: Default is ALMA. Other observatories available:
    • ARECIBO ATCA BIMA CLRO DRAO DWL GB GBT GMRT IRAM PDB IRAM_PDB
    • JCMT MOPRA MOST NRAO12M NRAO_GBT PKS SAO SMA SMA VLA VLBA WSRT
    • ATF ATA CARMA ACA OSF OVRO_MMA EVLA ASKAP APEX SMT NRO ASTE
    • LOFAR MeerKAT KAT-7 EVN LWA1 PAPER_SA PAPER_GB e-MERLIN MERLIN2
  • mjdsec
  • mjd
  • date: any of the following string formats is valid:
    • 2011/10/15 05:00:00
    • 2011/10/15-05:00:00
    • 2011-10-15 05:00:00
    • 2011-10-15T05:00:00
    • 2011-Oct-15T05:00:00

Example:

CASA <3>: au.sun()
Found location for ALMA: -67.754929, -23.022886 degrees
MJD = 56012.844907 = 4839509800.000000 seconds
At ALMA, the Sun is currently at azim=287.982, elev=30.591
