• nice python/scipy/matplotlib tutorial from Perry Greenfield at STSci: pydatatut.pdf, and another version of it with a few more appendix entries:readPlot1-DSpectra_WU.pdf. In particular both versions have nice idl-to-python appendices
• Go straight to your image or ms without a task to filter and protect you: toolkit reference
• the official MS table definition
• numpy and scipy some of this is loaded automatically in the pl. object in casapy. for other things, you have to "from numpy import foobar"
• matplotlib most of this is loaded in pl. in casapy
  • another matplotlib intro
• pickle once you've manipulated some python arrays, you will want to save them in a file for later
• python's native CSV reader is crap - I use Adam Ginsberg's readcol which works like IDL
• calculate atmospheres with ATM in casapy: example.py.txt (be careful about what at. variables scale with userWH20 and which don't. ATM is not really documented in any particularly useful way, but I've tried to sort this out at https://safe.nrao.edu/wiki/bin/view/ALMA/AtmIssues)
