Travel In and Out of Charlottesville

airplaneicon.svg.png For many visitors to NRAO, air travel will be the best way to get to Charlottesville. Airports within two hours of Charlottesville are:

Charlottesville regional airport (CHO) - ~10 miles north of Charlottesville; with many daily non-stop flights to and from Charlotte, Philadelphia, New York/LaGuardia, Washington/Dulles and Atlanta. CHO is served by Delta Connection, United Express, and US Airways Express.

Richmond International Airport (RIC) - ~85 miles southeast of Charlottesville; 90-100 minutes travel time. AirTran, American Airlines, Continental, Delta, JetBlue, United, USAir, Air Canada.

Dulles International Airport (IAD) - near Washington, DC, ~100 miles northeast of Charlottesville, about 2 hours travel (non-rush hour)

Reagan International Airport (DCA) - Arlington, VA, ~114 miles northeast of Charlottesville, about 2 hours, 45 minutes travel time.

Charlottesville Amtrak Station (CVS) - downtown Charlottesville; direct, daily service to/from Washington, DC, Philadelphia, New York City; south to Atlanta and New Orleans; west to Chicago.

Richmond Amtrak Station (RVR) - 70 miles southeast of Charlottesville, about 80 minutes travel time; The station is served by the Northeast Regional (Boston - Providence / Springfield - Hartford - New York - Washington, DC), with two lines that continue south to Miami, Florida (Silver Star and Silver Meteor), one line southeast to Newport News, Virginia (Notheast Regional), one line southwest to Charlotte, North Carolina (Carolinian), and one line south to Savannah, Georgia (Palmetto), while the downtown station (Richmond Main Street) is only served by the Northeast Regional service, since the others bypass downtown to the west.
