Usage of goldsmithTaperFactor

Return to directory of Todd's CASA extensions

Converts a taper in dB to the constant X in the formula FWHM=X*lambda/D for a Gaussian illumination pattern using equation 67 from Goldsmith (2002) single dish summer school lecture. We assume that taper_dB comes in as a positive value. See also effectiveTaper and baarsTaperFactor.

Usage:

au.goldsmithTaperFactor(taper_dB)

Example:

CASA <7>: au.goldsmithTaperFactor(12)
  Out[7]: 1.1819999999999999
