beamSolidAngle

Return to directory of Todd's CASA extensions

Converts a Gaussian beam FWHM from arcsec into equivalent solid angle in steradians using the formula: pi*(theta**2)/(4ln(2))

Usage: 

au.beamSolidAngle(major, minor=None)
Inputs:
  • major: beam major axis in arcsec
  • minor: beam minor axis in arcsec (if different from major axis)

Example: 

CASA <4>: au.beamSolidAngle(1.0)
  Out[4]: 2.6632636032938279e-11
