Purpose: To Discuss ALMA Data Sets

Minutes

Agenda:

  • Future meetings--Al will be in Chile for Feb; Crystal will take over this group then.
    • Note that although wvrgcal was installed on nash it is no longer maintained and one must install it on one's own machine from a tarball from Bojan.
  • Discussion of datasets in the repository (From Stuartt, Ed, Todd and Al)
    • Ed imaged the data on M87 (3C273), looks like phase conjugation problem is fixed
    • Brief discussion of reduction of dataset.
    • Volunteers to prepare a dataset and discussion for next meeting.
  • Test Images: Puxley would like scientifically compelling images showing the progression of ALMA through ES to Full science capabilities. Wilner showed the attached images of from a Beta Pic simulation. A simulation of Vega was studied but it was decided it would not make a good ES target.
  • Access to Tiger Team data--password protection for the repository, public wiki. Any problems?
    • The data files are located here.
    • Username and password were distributed to attendees.
  • Early Science Configurations (see below)
  • AOB

ES Configurations

  • There are two candidates for Early Science configurations under study; additional pads are thought to be available. Boone is working on a further iteration.
    • Compact configuration
      • compact.v2.cfg: FBoone's 10Dec2010 Compact Array Design
      • Remy imaged some Gaussians, similar to what Mel Wright did, to quantify the depth of the bowl around the beam, and the insufficient # short spacings here Like Mel, Remy concludes that this is still not a very good config for extended imaging. It is suggested that the Boone algorithm be changed to suppress the large inner hole.
      • Remy provided a useful script for determining shadowing and for producing gaussian component lists (attachment).
    • 250m configuration
      • Strawman 250m ES array attached to previous meeting; unchanged.

-- AlWootten - 2011-01-19

  • simgauss.py.txt: A script from Remy that makes a sequence of single-component componentlists, each of whose single component has a different width gaussian shape. Then it uses that in simdata.
