Project Scientists

  1. Science IPT -
    • AEM PPDR (Hills) * AEM PPDR--RIDs addressed, some problems unresolved in metrology. Needs to be demonstrated. Predictions are that it will meet all requirements without metrology except in winds above 7 m/s. Relies on inclinometers, existing ones don't meet FS requirements.Report of Panel * VxRSI PPDR--have not seen report.
    • Band 9 Review (Laing at Herschel meeting) * Review went pretty well; some questions on cross-polarization specifications but the noise performance looked good.
    • SidebandSeparation
    • "PSI/ATF Workshop" PSI Workshop Jan 2007 Presentations If you read only one, read Peter Napier's.
    • ATF: As per discussions with Mangum the current schedule is below. Please let Al and Debra know if anyone has any issues with this.

March
Astronomical fringes to be obtained, followed by holography acceptance

    • Face-to-face JAO IPT meeting in 2007 Mar 9-12.
  1. Astronomer Outreach: NRAO Newsletter ESO Newsletter NAOJNews. NRAO ALMA Calendar
  2. ARCs.
  3. Group Activities (all)
  4. Next meeting is on Mar 21st (14:30 UT). 18 April for the following month.

Emerson/Laing/Vila-Vilaro -- Instrument Scientists

  • PSI at the ATF: Schedule, holography progress wiki. pointing progress wiki Daily Logs Kudos to Darrel and his merry men for the outstanding job they have done with holography and the preparation for using it on the production antennas; Jeff and Darrel are now working on pointing, first of the AEC antenna and then of the Vertex antenna.

Conway, Holdaway -- Configuration Group

Jeff Mangum -- Calibration

  • Pointing Design document now under manufacture.
  • Calibration Plan: Current version of the calibration plan and associated documents ("examples", "roadmaps", "matrices", etc.) posted. Comments welcome.
  • Calibration Examples: The "meat" of the Calibration Plan. Review of these documents nearly complete.
  • Ancillary Calibration Devices: Documents which describe the weather station and temperature profile technical specifications have been developed. RFQ packets going out to vendors, with likely responses by end of January 2007. NOTE: I need suggested vendors for the temperature profiler.

Robert Lucas -- SSR

  • Latest SSR meeting (2007-02-14)
  • Science Archive detailed Requirements were discussed (see http://almasw.hq.eso.org/almasw/bin/view/SSR/ASARequirementsDiscussion). Draft update expected soon.
  • Updated new version of Off Line Software Requirements is submitted.
  • Off Line Software (CASA) tests scheduled 5-9 March.
  • Development of Single Dish Total Power is now the main focus. Meeting in Edinburgh Feb 15/20.
  • Current testing of Optical Pointing at ATF.

Michiel Hogerheijde -- DRSP

  • The DRSP projects are under review by a group of ASAC members. Deadline was February 15 for reviews, and most of them have been received (Spitzer deadline caused interference). Later this week all authors will be contacted, and asked to respond to the reviews by mid-March. April 1 remains the target date to place the DRSP 2.0 on the web (a password-protected version already lives there for use by the reviewers).

Robert Laing -- Commissioning and Science Verification

Mark Holdaway/Steve Myers, Reid -- Imaging

  • CASA Simulator Report
  • Solar Observing

L.-A. Nyman -- Site Characterization

Remijan, Markwick-Kemper -- ALMA Working Group on Spectral Line Frequencies

  • Splatalogue.net became active this week after setting up the database in Manchester and putting out some fires with the database (i.e. server crashing, etc.)
  • AJMK and TR now both have access to the Splatalogue database in Manchester.
  • The database mirror has been set up at NRAO-CV.
  • AJMK is working on the ~200 edits sent by TR for resolving the QNs in the database.
