Old Business --

Agenda of 18 February 2005 meeting. Minutes.

New Business -- Agenda

ALMA Project News (van den Bout)

ASAC (Turner) --

  • Response to charges from the ALMA Board -- ANASAC input to ASAC Charges
  • Beasley presentation to ASAC
  • Pan-ALMA Meeting (Carilli)

Face-to-face meeting-- (Yun)

  • Meet Sunday 2005 June 12 before Workshop on submillimeter wavelength astronomy. 1 pm at 160 Concord Avenue, Cambridge, Massachusetts.
  • Charge: Were ALMA rebaselining to result in a number of antennas from 36 to 56,
    • What would be the impact on the attainability of the level 1 science requirements?
    • What would be the loss os speed, image quality, mosaicing ability, and point-source sensitivity?
    • Would ALMA be sufficiently transformational to warrant continued support by the United States?
    • Is there a particular threshhold in antenna number, below which ALMA would suffer a sufficient degradation in its performance in the above or in other relevant scientific areas sufficiently serious to warrant attention?
  • Selection of new ANASAC Chairperson
  • CAA membership

Any Other Matters Arising

Science Corner:

From the SMA Calendar: The extraordinarily good weather, at least on some nights, continued last week. On a night when the 225 GHz opacity was 0.03 (MAR 1), the 183 GHz water maser line was observed toward the active galactic nucleus in NGC3079 and tentatively detected (zenith opacity of about 0.8). The continuum emission in the upper sideband at 193 GHz (zenith opacity of about 0.05) was clearly detected (see Test Log Entry 8949; and rumors).
