1. ALMA progress at Chile
Construction: planned shutdown in Feb., permanent power supply at high site -- not finished yet, some problems found. Only 8-10 antennas up, should be over in another week.
CSV continuing with small # of antennas, + poor weather
no early science expected Mar 7 session, next one might be Mar 21
currently 33 accepted antennas
front ends: band 3 production faciliities in CA finished up, band 9 finished, bands 6 & 7 are on the last few
last block of early science is extended array
Operations: ARC-based data reduction, 83 datasets completed in compact configuration, 70 packaged & put in archive
getting info to PIs: use helpdesk tickets to contact PIs with status
scheduling blocks with extended only configurations have been prepared (batch 3); batch 1& 2 not executed: updated with new software, no observations until August.
using filler band 3&6: these scheduling blocks will be made by the end of May
have 15 more sessions: lost session 10
ARCs participating in astronomer on duty @ OSF
data reduction in Santiago starting from end of last year, not as much presence at the OSF
proto-pipeline: person-powered data reduction script, "best-effort" imaging, still takes 2-3 weeks to process data. The "pipeline" pipeline is to be deployed in April, by Sept. round-robin imaging will be commissioned, compared to what is being done by hand. Goal is to be ready for Cycle 1
Projects still to be observed: need high efficiency for remaining sessions to get all the scheduling blocks observed. Still challenging to finish all high priority projects in band 9, planning to prioritize project components.
what information on ALMA do you feel you are not getting?
expect announcement about cycle 1 call on April 3,
CfP will be out at the end of May, with deadline mid-July NOI will be due May 15.
will be using keywords to shuffle panel members around, merge smaller panels
2.
NAASC during early science
AAS presence: special session. splinter session at past AAS was light, but will be offered in Anchorage
no responses to CDE request. Perhaps consider a webinar format to reach people with minimal investment of resources? There will be an NRAO-wide CDE at Green Bank
21 development proposals received. March 26 proposal reconciliation. Expect to receive notification from NSF by April 15, proposal studies to submit to ALAM/ADSC for recommendation
ADSC met recently: approved fiber link, event horizon telescope, EU band 5, and LO for band 5.
3. NSF portfolio review
letter was submitted.
4. ASAC activities
Cycle 0 review: lack of band 9 CSV dataset, not expanding beyond the current 5 month extension of Cycle 0
Cycle 1 proposal review plan: consolidate panels, publish identities of panel members, primary & secondary reviewers to write comments.
Development program: ASAC organizing themselves for this
resiting band 1: move to higher frequencies, take advantage of ALMA over EVLA, change requirements for band 1 for changed frequency range
5. Astronomer outreach
12-15 Dec. planned for pan-ALMA workshop
Taiwan holding joint workshop April 2013 dust to rocks to planets
Victoria also holding planetary systems meeting
Protostars & Planets VI is also next year.
ANASAC to endorse Taiwan meeting, use
NAASC resources
6. Date of next telecon
supposed to be April 20, but postponed due to travel; next telecon will be May 18.
7. Any Other Business
