Emerson/Laing -- Instrument Scientists

John Conway -- Configuration

  • The 64 antenna Y+ configuration was approved by the CCB 2005 March 3.
  • Notes from configuration redesign telecon.
  • Notes from an expedition to investigate a quebrada currently masked off but which may be suitable for antenna placement in its northern part. Nyman and Rivera confirm this.

Jeff Mangum -- Calibration

Robert Lucas -- SSR

  • Meeting on 2005-3-09: Minutes last meeting
  • Note particularly Ed Fomalont's document 'Scientific Input to Tunable Filter Use'

Michiel Hogerheijde -- DRSP

Robert Laing -- Commissioning and Science Verification

Mark Holdaway/Steve Myers -- Imaging

  • Minutes of 1 March Imcal meeting, devoted to imaging.
  • Also see NRAO Algorithms Working Group Minutes.

L.-A. Nyman -- Site Characterization

  • The meteorological instruments group was to define the 'ancillary devices'; the current draft of that is in almaedm at: http://tinyurl.com/5ns7e
  • The second task was to define the interface of the ancillary devices to the site. The current draft of that document is in almaedm at: http://tinyurl.com/43gvn
  • Angel noted that a Weather predictionpage can be useful for Chajnantor.

Science Corner:

From the SMA Calendar: The extraordinarily good weather, at least on some nights, continued last week. On a night when the 225 GHz opacity was 0.03 (MAR 1), the 183 GHz water maser line was observed toward the active galactic nucleus in NGC3079 and tentatively detected (zenith opacity of about 0.8). The continuum emission in the upper sideband at 193 GHz (zenith opacity of about 0.05) was clearly detected (see Test Log Entry 8949; and rumors).
