1. Report on ALMA progress at Chile (Wootten)
   • Construction -
     • Dear ALMA colleagues,
       • I would like to inform you that I will be leaving my post as ALMA director when my contract expires in early 2013, after the inauguration. The search for a new director will already begin soon as is customary for these international recruitment processes.

     • We mourn the passing of NAOJ astronomer Koh-Ichiro Morita, in Santiago.

     • Current Status: 33 antennas at AOS; 61 antennas including kits on site, 41 accepted, 48 Front Ends delivered.
     • Band 4, Band 8, Band 10 Change Requests

     • Early Science Progress
       • 69 datasets delivered to about 25 PIs overall; 12 American PIs have delivered data.
       • List of highest ranked projects
       • Project Tracker thought to be ready for deployment by ~end of June. Becomes visible for PI's (and coIs?) of ALMA projects & lists status of all SBs submitted to the archive: Phase2 Subitted; Ready; Wait; Fully observed (=ready for QA2); Verified (passed QA2).
       • B/c PT and archive not ready, project is creating a html table in the Science Portal to list Cycle 0 data deliveries.
       • What information on ALMA do you feel you are not getting? Please give us a top five and we'll fashion a FAQ. ( Action Item )
       • ARC-based data reduction started in early April. We have accepted 13 Datasets (3 just yesterday). 4 delivered. 2 awaiting resolution of labeling issue. 4 need more executions.
     • Cycle 1 Lookahead
       • More than 750 "Notice of Intents" were received. From this, JAO predicts > 1200 proposals. For ARP membership, will plan on something higher (like 1500 or more)
       • Last OT load test worked great. OT undergoing some last minute mods (validation for SGs with multiple velocities). No show stoppers.
       • Advanced drafts of Cycle1 documents out for review, including ASAC: Call for Proposals; Proposers Guide/Capabilities; Early Science Primer; Technical Handbook; Guide to ARCs. Soon to come: OT Quickstart & Videos (awaiting OT with final "look & feel")
       • Call expected 31 May 2012. Deadline expected to be 12 July 2012.
       • Observations expected to start after completion of Cycle 0 (Jan 2013)

     • The Call for ALMA Development Studies was issued 21 Nov.
     • Development telecon presentation
     • ALMA Development Steering Committee (ADSC) (ALMA Deputy Director L. Ball, W. Wild, M. McKinnon, S. Iguchi, R. Hills), formed Oct 2011.
     • ALMA Board approved two projects for further development:* Band 5 (163-211 GHz),
       • Install a fiber optic cable from the OSF to Calama for improved data rate and operations cost savings.
       • Encouraged further work on two projects: NRAO work with Phasing/VLBI team to develop plans for phasing up ALMA for VLBI.
       • NAOJ continue collaboration with ASIAA, HIA, NRAO, and U. Chile to develop plans for the production of Band 1 (31-45 GHz) receivers
     • NRAO is in the process of communicating results
       • North American Proposals for Development Upgrade Studies for ALMA Report on accepted Studies.
